THE MAFOREKA RAIDERS
This program began as an idea and quickly became a reality - the purpose was to help the Canadian students to understand a little better the plight of young people in third world countries. In fact the students at Essex High and in the Essex elementary schools have received a very enriched learning experience. And this will not stop, for now they intend to maintain their school on a yearly basis. They intend to send books and supplies to their village and they will be communicating with their African friends and in time there will be exchange programs.
In addition to becoming "globally aware", the Essex students have learned another very valuable lesson, perhaps best summed up by one of the young Maforeka Raiders - " I can't believe we really did this." |
